March 10th and 11th saw the competitive volleyball year begin
for schools around Queensland with the Queensland Beach Schools Cup taking
place at Coolangatta Beach. There were 221 competing teams over the two days
which made for a busy, yet exciting, tournament.
Beach volleyball offers a host
of challenges such as the blinding sun, difficult wind conditions and more
space, to cover on the court per player. 4 teams entered the competition:
three pairs in the girls’ competition and one group of fours in the boys’
Sunday saw the four teams play through a number of pool games
where Ruby and Samara finished first in their pool.
These girls continued their
success into the second and final day of the tournament, finishing with a Gold Medal
in the Intermediate Girls (Year 9 and 10) Division. Well done to all who
participated in the competition.
