Catering to Talented Students of Japanese from 2020

8/06/2018
Here at Holland Park State High School, we offer our students all the tools they need to reach their full potential. When it comes to learning a second language, it is no different – our Japanese Language Programs, commencing 2020, will enable talented students from bilingual or conventional language programs to advance their studies in the Japanese language and culture from Years 7-12. We are partnering with Queensland universities including The University of Queensland to deliver programs that promote excellence in Japanese language learning and complement studies across a range of academic disciplines at tertiary level.
The Proficiency Class Program will cater to students from a bilingual home or educational setting. By the time they graduate, these students will have been given the opportunity to accelerate their ATAR studies in Japanese as well as achieve qualifications to enable them to work and study in Japan (JLPT 2). Students will be eligible to study a university subject from a range of disciplines, including Japanese, while completing senior high school studies. Selection will be based on appropriate Japanese language proficiency and other factors as determined by the school.
The Masterclass Program provides a fast track for students exiting traditional primary school Japanese programs with excellent Japanese results who are not native speakers and have not studied Japanese in an immersion or bilingual program. These students will have the opportunity to accelerate their studies in Japanese. Selection will be based aptitude for the language and other factors as determined by the school.
