At Holland Park State High, we offer a wide variety of extra-curricular activities which are of interest to our student community. One of our growing areas is Touch Football. Touch is a fast, fun and action packed sport, which has seen massive growth in popularity across the state and greater Brisbane areas as well as within our school community.
Students from all year levels are given an opportunity to participate in Touch Football at the beginning of the school year, by competing in the Interschool Summer Sport Competition. Students will play against other schools in the South District Secondary Sport region on a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon for a full 9 or 10 week session.
Students can continue to enjoy their Touch Football experience by nominating for selection in a Holland Park State high Touch team to compete at the Queensland All Schools Touch Tournament in week1, term 4 of each calendar year. Holland Park State High has competed in this competition for 11 years, nominating teams in the Open Boys, Open Girls, Open Mixed and Under 15 Boys age groups. The competition is held at Whites Hill Recreation Reserve, home of the Brisbane Metropolitan Touch Association. In 2016, 406 teams participated in 1311 games throughout this 5-day tournament, including teams from all across Queensland, as well as international teams from Singapore and New Zealand. Once selected for a Holland Park State High All Schools team, students are required to train during school lunchtimes and/or after school to prepare for the tournament.
With qualified and experienced staff and coaches, Holland Park State High's extra-curricular Touch Football, is aimed at providing opportunities for students to engage in a fun, fast-paced sport whilst development other essential life skills such as teamwork, sportsmanship, communication skills and cooperation.
