In our High Performance Volleyball Program, here at Holland Park State High School, we believe that participation, collaboration and communication are the pillars to developing not only great athletes, but successful future adults. We understand there are some life lessons we simply can't teach inside a classroom. Our High Performance Volleyball Program offers our students the opportunity to engage in an enriching, elite sports experience.

Program Areas

First introduced in 2001, the program is designed by qualified and experienced volleyball coaches to facilitate the development and extension of our student's skills. The program consists of: elite volleyball skill development; fitness training and a tailored injury prevention program; team work activities; leadership opportunities; officiating and match refereeing opportunities; and tournament organisation.

Coaching

The program is led by Craig Dawson ( Head of Department HPE) and Stephanie Acraman ( Volleyball Program Coordinator). Both are Qualified referees and Level 3 accredited coaches through the Australian Coaching Council.

Having been with the program since its inception in 2001, Craig Dawson has over 20 years of coaching experience at Holland Park State High School. In that time he has captured 5 Honours Division Australian Titles at AVSC and a swag of State Open Honours titles at QVSC. Craig has spent time with the Queensland Academy of Sport and Volleyball Australia gaining invaluable coaching experience that he is able to filter back to the program here at Holland Park SHS.

Although new to Holland Park State High School in 2023, Stephanie Acraman is not new to Volleyball coaching. After a number of years of representative playing, Stephanie converted to coaching when she began teaching. Having come from another high performing volleyball school and overseeing the accumulation of many state and national titles, Stephanie comes with the experience to guide the Holland Park High Performance Program to continued success. She is also a current QLD state team coach where her practice has been continuously refined and fed back into the Holland Park Volleyball program.

Learning Opportunities

Students who participate in our High Performance Volleyball Program are given the opportunity to undertake district (Level 1) and regional (Level 2) refereeing courses, which are run by Volleyball Queensland. Our students also have the option of taking an additional Level 1 coaching course.

We believe a great way of leaning is by leading, so we give our senior Scholl Volleyball program members the opportunity to mentor and assist the junior teams and provide them with positive role models both on and off the Volleyball court.

The friendships that are formed and the guidance provided by our senior mentors is what assists students in developing their capacity for team work, leadership and effective communication.

Representative Honours

For over 20 years, our High Performance Volleyball Program has helped transform hundreds of athletes, and we have seen some of them prosper in regional, state, national and even Olympic competition levels. We are thrilled to acknowledge:

  • 100+ Regional representatives

  •  36 State representatives

  •  21 National representatives

  •  1 Olympic Beach Volleyball representative
