Book Buddies is part of a partnership that Holland Park State High has with Marshall Road State School to foster a love of reading. The program, which runs for approximately 12 weeks each year involved selected Year 11 students visiting the primary school one morning per week to read to Prep students. The program focusses on our students helping to develop both pre-reading and early learning skills through the modelling of reading behaviours.
Our aim is to foster both skill development, but more so to promote a lifetime love of reading for the Prep students. In the process, all students develop enhanced social and strengthened interpersonal communication skills.
For Holland Park State high Students, the program also offers an invaluable opportunity to demonstrate leadership and confidence skills, in addition to making an extremely worthwhile contribution to our local Holland Park community.
