English is a fundamental subject that plays a pivotal role in the education of students in Years 7 – 12. It serves as a cornerstone for the development of essential communication skills, critical thinking abilities and a deep appreciation for literature and language across a range of contexts. English provides a comprehensive framework designed to empower students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become effective communicators, critical readers and thinkers and proficient writers.
Through studying English, students will learn to:
- Listen to, read, view, interpret, evaluate and perform a variety of spoken, written and multimodal texts designed to inform and persuade.
- Develop their understanding of how text is influenced by context, purpose and audience.
- Articulate their thoughts and ideas effectively and engage with diverse texts, whilst developing a deeper understanding of the world around them.
Our English faculty has a commitment to offering enriching programs of live theatre through 'Shake & Stir', one of Australia's leading school production theatre companies.
