The study of English is central to the learning and development of all students and is taught across all year levels. English is taught with the aim of developing students' comprehension, and their ability to express themselves clearly and confidently. It is through the study of English that students learn to communicate and build relationships with others and with the world around them which enables students to become ethical, thoughtful, informed and active members of society.
Through studying English, students will learn to:
- Listen to, read, view, interpret, evaluate and perform a variety of spoken, written and multimodal texts designed to inform and persuade.
- Develop their understanding of how text is influenced by context, purpose and audience.
- Become critical thinkers and life-long learners of language, literacy and literature.
