​This program aims to:

  • Offer students who are skilful in Music an extended, enriched curriculum.
  • Provide creative and engaging extension opportunities for students.
  • Prepare students for future study or community involvement in the Music field.
  • Provide opportunities to work with performance artists and exposure to professional programs in the Music.

Extension Opportunities:

This program is a mixture of timetabled subjects and non-timetabled activities. Students will have access to enrichment programs in Music throughout the year.

  • Opportunities to extend instrumental skills in ensemble engagement.
  • Opportunities to extend singing voices in choral engagement.
  • Participation in a series of industry workshops; performance and composition activities in conjunction with Industry Specialists.
  • Performance opportunities in the school and wider community such as assemblies, lunch time concerts and large-scale productions. 
  • Touring opportunities, both interstate and regional.

Intended outcomes for music excellence:

  • Improved musical performance ability
  • Enhancement of creativity through composition
  • Improved ICT skills in music
  • Involvement in improving the music culture within the school

Enrichment Activities:

  • Composition
  • Performance practice
  • Access to ICTs through software and hardware (Smart Music, Soundtrap, Noteflight, MIDI controller keyboards and audio interfaces)
  • Skills developed in vocal, orchestral, small ensemble and solo performance

Achievements:

Our students are routinely selected for a range of extension activities, run by both the Department of Education and external providers including:

  • Musically Outstanding Students Scholarship (MOST)
  • Creative Generation (Featured Vocalists, Backing Vocalists, Core Choir, Massed Choir, Symphony Orchestra, Drumline, Massed Strings, Stage Crew, Massed Dance)
  • State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP)
  • Pacific Honours Ensemble Program (PHEP)
  • Young Conservatorium
  • Queensland Youth Orchestra

We are proud of our music students who have chosen to continue music studies at tertiary institutions including:

  • Griffith University – Queensland Conservatorium of Music (Performance and Music Technology)
  • QUT Creative Industries
  • University of Queensland​
