Since graduating in 2004, Bradley Richardson graduated from UQ with First Class Honours in Physiotherapy, worked with AllSports Physiotherapy for 2 years before going back to university to complete a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery. Richard now works with Queensland Health. We caught up with Bradley to see what else he was been up tp since leaving Holland Park SHS and some memorable moments about the school.
What do you do for a living now?
I work as a Doctor in Emergency Departments within the Metro
South Health District for Queensland Health.
Do you think your time at Holland Park helped you to pursue
this? If yes, how?
Whilst my study at high school didn’t directly lead to a
career in Medicine, I believe that the life lessons, leadership opportunities
and the ongoing positive encouragement developed a solid platform for which I
could use to study whatever I wanted.
Do you still live locally?
After living for 5 years in Victoria, I have just moved
back and bought a house with my fiancé in the local Holland Park area.
Did you enjoy your time at Holland Park SHS?
Yes, it was a great local high school that gave me many
opportunities in academic, sporting and leadership activities whilst I was a
student.
Who was your favourite teacher? Why?
Mark Neal (who has now left) - he was a genuinely good role model. He
personified hard work, and knew how to connect with students to get the most of
out them.
Richard James (who has now left)- A perfect life mentor. As a coach of the
Volleyball Development Program, he pushed each of us as individuals and made
sure we all achieved our potential both on and off the court.
What was your most memorable moment as a student?
Lots of
great memories travelling with friends to National Schools Cup in Melbourne,
Year 12 Ski-trip to New Zealand, playing handball all lunch hour in the
quadrangle (which I think is now gone), and the disappointment when they
stopped selling soft drink and first break!
What was your funniest moment as a student?
The moment Mr Neal drove down the footpath so we could
get to Saint Kilda Beach in Melbourne whilst away on a Volleyball Trip.
Are you still friends with anybody you met at Holland Park?
Yes, I have kept in touch with a
few people. Moving away from Brisbane and progressing down my career has
narrowed the friendship circle however despite this the best man at our wedding
will be a friend who I went through Holland Park with.
