Since graduating in 2006, Elizabeth Bromwich has pursued her dream of becoming a primary school teacher which she has now been working as for 5 years. We caught up with Liz to see what else she has been up to since leaving Holland Park SHS and some memorable moments about the school.

What have you done since graduating?

Since graduating I have pursued my dream to become a primary school teacher and have been working as a teacher for 5 years. I have also lived overseas for extended periods of time and visited 18 other countries around the world. I have been the president of my Rotaract Club and continue to enjoy playing netball, soccer.

What do you do for a living now?

I am working as a primary school teacher in Ipswich.

Do you think your time at Holland Park helped you to pursue this?

I had many great teachers at Holland Park who modelled what sort of teacher I wanted to be. Many of the subjects have also been very useful in my career.

What did you do in the year immediately after graduating?

In the year immediately after graduating from Holland Park I did a Rotary Youth Exchange to Ecuador for 12 months. I lived with two host families, went to school, learnt to speak fluent Spanish, travelled to the Galapagos Islands, Andes and Amazon Rainforest. I helped with a number of projects working with the poor communities and made many wonderful friends.

Do you still live locally?

I still live locally and pass the school often.

Did you enjoy your time at Holland Park?

I enjoyed my time at Holland Park, the subjects I studied and the lifelong friends I made.

Do you still remember your favourite teacher?

The teachers at Holland Park were fantastic. They were dedicated people who were genuinely interested in us and our education. One particular teacher springs to mind because she worked tirelessly to help me with maths. She volunteered her own time and always had a smile on her face, despite my mountain of questions.

What was your most memorable moment as a student?

I loved the school talent quest! My friends and I performed group dances and drama skits. I also fondly remember when our Year 8 girls volleyball team won the QLD School’s Cup and sold Snow Cones to fundraise our way to the Australian School’s Cup.

What was your funniest moment as a student?

I have many funny memories from school with my friends, but unfortunately they would not be funny to the outside world!

Are you still friends with anybody you met at Holland Park?

I am still very good friends with my high school friends and see them regularly. I keep up to date with most people on Facebook and was able to catch up with quite a few people at our recent 10 year reunion.

In the Future, would you send your children to Holland Park?

I would definitely send my children to this school if it continued to offer as many opportunities as I was given, and had teachers who worked as hard as they did when I attended.
