Since
graduating in 2008, Nick Frommolt followed his carpentry career path and in
2011, just three years later created his own start-up carpentry business.
Nick’s business has continued to expand, using his former House Captain
experience to manage his increasing staff levels. We caught up with Nick to see
what else he has been up to since leaving Holland Park SHS and some memorable
moments about the school.
What do you do for a living
now?
I own my small carpentry business.
I have also had the opportunities to travel around the world to Canada, Europe,
South Africa and parts of Asia.
Do you think your time at
Holland Park helped you to pursue this career? If yes, how?
Yes, I started my apprenticeship
with the school-based system in Grade 11. Originally, I was encouraged to
strive for an OP however, I was certain I knew what I wanted to choose as my
future career path. I appreciated the school’s efforts to inspire me to achieve
my highest academic results possible and once I explained my passion for this
industry, they helped me achieve this goal.
Do you still live locally?
I have moved twice since
graduating but yes, I have remained in the same suburb. I have had the
opportunity to travel around the world to Canada, Europe, South Africa and
parts of Asia.
Did you enjoy your time at
Holland Park SHS?
Yes, I really enjoyed the school
as a whole. I found that the small school fee created a family where everyone
knew each other from every grade.
Who was your favourite teacher?
Why?
Mr James was a great teacher. He
treated every student like an adult and had the right balance between being
approachable and stern when necessary.
What was your most memorable
moment as a student?
Having the opportunity to
represent the school as a House Captain was an enjoyable experience. It gave me
a lot of insight into what it takes to manage others and take on more
responsibility. I also really enjoyed my school-based apprenticeship as it
provided me with the skills and knowledge to follow my career path now.
Do you feel that Holland Park
has changed much since you graduated?
I go back to the school several
times a year for business and it still has the same feel to me, however the
grounds and buildings are definitely upgraded.
