Since graduating in 2010, Colin Mackay graduated QUT with a Bachelor of Business and travelled through New Zealand, Singapore and the Netherlands as part of his degree. Colin now works for an investment management firm. We caught up with Colin to see what else he has been up to since graduating.
What have you done since graduating?
After graduating from Holland Park, I returned the next year as an employee. Getting paid to go to school was a more favourable situation!
I also completed a Bachelor of Business at QUT and travelled to
New Zealand, Singapore and the Netherlands as part of my degree. Moved out of home, started full-time work, Kayaked on Milford Sound and Snowboarded for the first time.
What do you do for a living now?
I work for an investment management firm that owns and
manages real estate (such as shopping centres) on behalf of investors. I
analyse the performance of shopping centres and write about retail trends.
Do you think your time at Holland Park helped you to pursue
this? If yes, how?
Yes, my time at Holland Park contributed to my entrance to
university and career path by providing a safe place to learn. The passion of
the teachers was also a big driver. The volleyball excellence program also
developed my skills in teamwork, leadership and hammered home the importance of
work ethic.
Do you still live locally?
No, I now live in Sydney. Much colder in winter!
Who was your favourite teacher?
Shannon Keane. Treated students with respect and balanced
making the classroom enjoyable with making sure we were learning and on task.
What was your most memorable moment as a student?
Throwing away an 11-4 lead in the gold medal match at
Australian Volleyball Schools Cup to lose 11-15.
Are you still friends with anybody you met at Holland Park?
My best friends from high school
are still my best friends today.
